How it works.
Six steps, how long each one takes, and when you start paying. You don’t pay anything until you’ve said yes.
The steps
1. Discovery meeting
one to two hoursWe talk about you: what you want, what’s bothering you and where things stand today. I’ll explain how I work and what it costs. By the end we’ll both know whether we’re a good fit. It’s free and you’re not committed to anything.
2. Fact find
60 to 90 minutes, in your own timeI send you two emails with a fact find and a risk questionnaire. Fill them in when it suits you. Don’t worry if you can’t find everything.
3. First meeting
90 minutes to two hoursWe go through what you’ve told me and make sure I’ve understood it. We agree how we’ll work together, talk about your attitude to risk, and you sign letters that let me contact your existing pension and investment providers.
4. Research
four to eight weeksThis part is mine. I get the details from your providers, which is the slow bit, then research the market and build your plan.
5. Proposal meeting
90 minutes to two hoursI show you what I recommend and why, in writing and in plain English, with every cost in pounds. You decide whether to go ahead. Up to this point you haven’t paid me anything.
6. Putting it in place
three to six weeksI set up the new plans, move what needs moving and deal with the paperwork. This is when the initial fee is charged.
After that
We meet every year to review the plan, look at what has changed in your life and update your cashflow forecast. In between I keep an eye on your investments and flag anything that could make the plan more tax efficient.
And you have a coach in your corner. If something comes up, whether it’s a job offer, a business idea or a decision you can’t settle, ring me. Some of that will be regulated advice and some will be a conversation, and I’ll tell you which is which.
How much of your time it takes
About five to seven and a half hours across the first few months, most of it in three meetings. Start to finish usually takes two to four months, depending on how quickly your existing providers reply.
If you’d like to use this tax year’s allowances, get in touch as early as you can.
